The Cave of the Apocalypse
Patmos is the island to which John, the beloved disciple of Christ was exiled and the Cave is the place where he wrote the Book of Revelation. It lies about halfway along the road from Skala to Chora. The Holy Cave is today enclosed by the Monastery of the Apocalypse, which was built around it in the 18th century.

The Monastery of St. John the Divine
Built on a nearly inaccessible high point the Monastery of St. John the Divine dominates the island with its majestic presence. But it is also a monastery of artistic and architectural value: behind its fortress-like medieval facade is a fortified and labyrinthian complex of cells and installations where priceless religious heirlooms are kept. Wall paintings and rare icons, a sacristy, holy vestments.
